Origins’ mission is to nurture and develop students as problem-solvers and flexible thinkers. The instructional philosophy of the school is based on the belief that to be prepared for success after high school, in college and in a career, students must learn how to set clear goals for a project, and see those goals through to completion through a process of inquiry and research-based work. Through the school’s personalized college and career goal-setting program, students learn how to create long-term goals and achieve them through immediate concrete actions and study.
The school’s mark features an origin; or the point where something begins, or is derived from. This point moving outward on two 45˚ axis creates an “X,” hinting to the starting point/the school’s philosophy, the future growth that awaits them at OHS and the location of Origins on avenue X. Each student’s origin is further broken down into one of the pupils six focuses he or she chooses during their Sophomore year; Math, Science, History, English, Art and Health. For Origins launch, we helped create the personality and platform, the mark universe, a small corporate identity, a simple wordpress/blog-style website and the materials required for the DOE recruitment days (pamphlets, banners and, to our delight, pencils). With designer Ferris Caldwell.
